Activated carbon is a carbon material with an enormous surface area that provides excellent absorption of pollutants in both water and air. The large surface area means that it is able to remove pollutants to a large extent, and is often used as the final purification step in strict emission requirements, such as for drinking water. Activated carbon is particularly well suited for the removal of heavy metals and PFAS.
